Micrex offers three types of machine trials; Screening,
Development, and Production. Screening trials explore a wide
variety of treatments for new materials, or new applications. Development trials
allow for further testing and refinement of the process. In Production trials,
the machinery and materials are tested under near production conditions for
longevity and reliability.
Screening Trial
The screening trial is where new product ideas are tested for feasibility. When
a product sample is received, Micrex performs a trial run to determine whether
or not the desired effect(s); softening, texturing, etc. can be achieved.
Screening trials are performed without charge on sample
material supplied by the customer. Customer is responsible for all
shipping and customs charges however.
Screening trials are typically completed within two weeks of
receipt of the sample material. The processed material and an analysis of the
trial are returned to the customer for evaluation.

Development Trial
The development trial is generally used to follow up a
screening trial that is successful but where the customer desires further
refinement of the treatment.
Micrex feels that the development cycle is important in cases
where the product resulting from the screening trial has the potential for
further improvement.
By running larger quantities of material while making
additional adjustments to the machinery, improvements can be realized before
going to a full production type trial. Development trials also allow a
customer to do extensive testing or even pre-production manufacturing of a
product. Another beneficial aspect of the development trial is that it allows
for the exploration of different Microcreper configurations.
Micrex does charge
a fee (starting at $375 per hour) for development trials. The fee is determined
by time, labor, materials, etc. More specific information concerning the trial
fee schedule can be obtained from Micrex.
Production
Trial
The production trial is the final step in verifying the
successful application of the Micrex process to a particular product. In the
production trial, Micrex seeks to simulate the conditions under which the
product will actually be produced.
When Micrex machines are sold as a result of successful
development or production trials, a portion of the lab fees may be credited
against machine purchases. The base rate for
contract converting is
$275.00 per hour.
The customer may also wish to arrange for a
representative to visit Micrex during a development or production trial. Micrex
encourages, and can facilitate, such a
visit by helping to arrange lodgings, car rentals, etc.
